A new year, a soft relaunch, and a topic the whole industry is still working through. MCR.TEST returned to Roku's Circle Square offices for an interactive evening approaching AI from a tester's perspective — because AI isn't just another feature, it's changing how products behave and where risk shows up.
The first half, Breaking the Bot, was a hands-on prompt injection challenge. Attendees worked to bypass safety guardrails and extract information using different prompt engineering techniques, exploring how surprisingly fragile AI systems can be under pressure and what that means for testers in practice.
After food, the session flipped: From Testing AI to Powering Up With It. The focus shifted from testing AI systems to using AI as a thinking partner — surfacing risks, spotting patterns, and scaling effort. Live exploration and shared discoveries produced more than a few 'why haven't I been doing this?' moments.
